Reading, Writing Workshop

Vision and Purpose
Vanguard’s Reaching and Writing Workshop (RWW) grew out of the need to make students quality readers and writers. This required 2-year sequence of courses gives students individualized instruction, based on the level they are on, in small classes.

Besides providing students with effective instruction, RWW also prepares all students for the English Language Arts (ELA) exam, which they take for the first time in the middle of the 10th grade.

Students who need extra support as readers and writers are placed into our Wilson Program, which specializes in phonics instruction. Students who earn a 3.0 grade and higher, as well as earn a 75+ on the ELA exam, can place out of RWW and take elective courses instead.
